Speaking at Chintheche in the district, Kabambe, an economist and former governor of the Reserve Bank of Malawi, said UTM Party will restructure the budget.

“We will start all over again. We will start by allocating K100 billion to every district council in Malawi,” he said.

Kabambe said his administration will discuss with councils on how much it should allocate to different sectors such as health, education, water and sanitation, among others.

He observed that what councils were currently getting was inadequate and the allocation will help ease the challenges they are facing.

“Challenges in districts such as Nkhata Bay include shortage of learning structures. We will, therefore, allocate that amount

to address the challenges,” said Kabambe.

He also said when voted into power, UTM-led government will open 10 mining sites in the country to help create employment.

On her part, UTM Party aspiring parliamentarian for Nkhata Bay South Constituency Emily Chinthu Phiri appealed to people to vote for her and Kabambe to ensure development in the area.

“We have many youths that need start-up capital to run businesses. Once I get elected, I will ensure that they are economically empowered,” she said.

An eligible voter, Madalitso Manda, expressed satisfaction with campaign messages presidential hopefuls are taking to the district.

“So far, I can say that I am impressed with the political messages I have heard from different presidential aspirants who have visited Nkhata Bay,” he said.
